What's next

Coming soon

What we are building next. None of it is in the library today; each section says what you can do in the meantime.

Mobile keyboard input

Text in a box is typed with the keys a desktop keyboard sends one at a time. Input that arrives another way doesn't reach the box yet:

  • Phone and tablet keyboards. A tap selects and edits a text box as a click does, but the on-screen keyboard doesn't open.
  • Input methods. Chinese, Japanese and Korean input methods, and accent keys that combine with the next letter (typing é on a US-International keyboard), don't type into the box.
  • Dictation, autocorrect and emoji pickers. Text they produce doesn't reach the box.

Mobile keyboard input will give the editor a hidden text field that has the keyboard's focus while someone types, so every kind of input reaches the box as text: the phone's keyboard opens on a tap, and input methods, dictation and autocorrect work as they do in any text field.

Until then, open Story Mode for this kind of input. It edits the text in the browser's own text field, so phone keyboards, input methods, dictation and autocorrect all work there, and every change appears in the text box as it is typed.

Right-to-left text

Arabic, Hebrew and other right-to-left languages. Their letters are already shaped correctly, but lines are laid out left to right, so a right-to-left sentence reads in the wrong order and the cursor moves the wrong way through it. Right-to-left support will lay out each line in the direction its text reads, with the cursor, selection and alignment to match, mixed with left-to-right words in the same line.

Until then, use Rich Text for Canvas for left-to-right languages: Latin scripts, Japanese, Chinese and Korean, and the other scripts listed in Languages and emoji.
