Voices of Black Grandmothers celebrated its very first National Black Grandmothers Day on February 7, 2022. It was a fabulous day! Thousands of Black Grandmothers gathered on social media to recognize the day by honoring each other, our ancestors and of course, themselves.
Our goal for next year is to celebrate at our Nation's Capital, The White House! Help us get there by making a contribution.
Our journey for the upcoming year will be creating a safe place for grandmothers to gather to share resources, network and support each other.
What is National Black Grandmothers Day?
National Black Grandmothers Day is a day reserved to honor and celebrate black grandmothers, pay tribute to the generations before them and those that will come after them during Black History Month.
Through this representation of Black Grandmothers, we aim to inspire and engage with our communities and experience the voices of black grandmothers who are the thread of our culture.
February 7, 2022 is the 15th year anniversary that we have supported black grandmothers. Our Private Facebook group has grown to over 21,000 members.
Over the past 20 years the roles of grandmothers have had increased responsibility of caring for their grandchildren. Grandmothers have become the head of the household, while working outside of the home and resetting their life to raise their grandchildren.
